Gold or Silver Jewellery: Which Suits You
Gold or silver is one of those choices that feels bigger than it is. Both are timeless, both suit almost everyone, and the honest answer is that you can wear either, or both. Still, a few simple pointers make it easier to pick what flatters you most.
Look at your skin tone
- Warm undertones (skin that looks golden or olive, veins that look green) tend to be flattered by gold tones.
- Cool undertones (skin with a pink or blue cast, veins that look blue) often suit silver and white tones.
- Neutral undertones are lucky: both look great, so choose by mood.
A quick test: hold a gold piece and a silver piece near your face in natural light and see which makes your skin look brighter.
Match it to your wardrobe
Gold reads warm and dressy and lifts earth tones, cream and black. Silver reads cool and modern and sits beautifully with greys, blues and monochrome. If most of your clothes lean one way, a matching metal will get more wear.
Mixing metals is allowed
The old rule that you cannot mix gold and silver is long gone. A mixed stack of rings or a gold necklace with silver earrings looks modern and considered. The trick is to repeat each metal at least twice so it looks deliberate.
Care matters more than metal
Whichever you choose, the finish is what makes it last. Plated pieces over stainless steel hold their colour far longer than thin plating over soft metal. Keep jewellery dry, store it apart so pieces do not scratch, and it will keep looking new.
The LessBranding approach
We stock both, in finishes chosen to last: gold-plated stainless steel that resists tarnishing, and sterling silver pieces with real weight. Pick the tone that flatters you, or build a set in both.
